Patek Philippe 3582 Ellipse ASCENDS!

The Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 3582 may be one of the most important “under-the-radar” vintage Pateks of the last decade — and the market is finally waking up.
For years, collectors overlooked the Ellipse line in favor of sport models. But that has changed dramatically. As we predicted over a year ago, sophisticated collectors have started rediscovering the Ellipse, attracted by its elegant proportions, unconventional geometry, and unmistakable 1970s futurism. The result? Prices across the entire Ellipse family have been climbing aggressively.
But the Ref. 3582 is different.
This is not just another Ellipse. This is the space-age Ellipse.

Its bold integrated design, oversized case proportions, and futuristic bracelet architecture place it at the intersection of several powerful collecting trends at once: vintage 1970s and 1980s design, gender-neutral luxury watches, sculptural jewelry aesthetics, and ultra-low production rarity. The asymmetrical, flowing case design feels decades ahead of its time — so much so that some collectors have even noted similarities between the Ellipse’s soft geometric form language and later minimalist wearable designs seen in products like the Apple Watch.
Two years ago, examples traded around $6,000. A year ago, when we publicly projected these could hit $25,000, the market still largely ignored them at roughly $11,000.
Today? The prediction has effectively played out.
There is currently only a single example publicly offered around the $24,000–$25,000 level, underscoring just how scarce these watches truly are. Production is believed to have been extremely limited — likely under 500 examples total — and the model was manufactured only for a very short period.
That scarcity matters.
Today’s collector increasingly wants what nobody else has. As the market matures, the focus is shifting away from mass-recognized references toward watches with design significance, rarity, and individuality. The 3582 checks every box. It sits directly at the center of the “hot” Ellipse market while simultaneously being one of the rarest and most visually radical executions Patek Philippe ever produced within the line.
Another important factor: this watch appeals to both male and female collectors. The rise of sophisticated female participation in the high-end vintage market is one of the defining long-term trends in watch collecting, and the 3582’s sculptural proportions and jewelry-forward aesthetic fit perfectly into that shift. Despite being technically an Ellipse, it actually wears quite large compared to most traditional Ellipse references, giving it strong contemporary wrist presence.
The challenge, however, is condition.
Finding a truly excellent example is extraordinarily difficult. Almost all surviving watches exhibit some degree of dial oxidation, spotting, or flaking — particularly around the dial edges and metallic surfaces. As a result, clean examples command enormous premiums and may become nearly impossible to source as collectors lock them away.
In our view, the trajectory remains upward.
The combination of extreme rarity, increasing awareness, rising Ellipse demand, and broader appreciation for 1970s space-age luxury design continues to create a powerful setup for further appreciation. We believe these watches are on track to reach the $30,000 level by the next major auction season.
And unlike many watches in today’s market, this is not a watch everybody owns.
It is the watch everybody wishes they could find.
